Rest Stop
Nat Cassidy is an important writer for our time, and certainly in the horror genre, with a voice that is comical, whimsical, and true. When you start adding layers of existential crises and paranoia, you have something special. Like his first two major releases, Rest Stop is prime for the Constant Reader, sure, but catches its real stride in the humanity he injects. Ever want to get locked in an empty gas station with a killer? Same here. That being the case, this story is one of deep fears and psychological dread, both intimately from a cerebral place (the death of relationships, and one’s place in their family) to a more visceral (someone tossing you into a box with your worst fears). Rest Stop is a modest commitment for a reader, a novella that keeps you turning with great pacing. Cassidy is set to bring another novel to the world this spring with When The Wolf Comes Home, and I for one can’t wait.
At this point, everything the dude touches turns to gold.
